Tailgate Connect Brings the Uber Model to $13 Billion Football Tailgating Opportunity
Startup to Connect Tailgaters at College Football Games Across the Nation
Danville, CA— TgC — Tailgate Connect (TgC) has legally formed as a C Corporation today to bring the collaborative consumption personal space sharing philosophy to tailgating.
“TgC will connect people in tailgate lots across the country starting this college football season, enabling fans to easily identify tailgates before leaving for the stadium and tailgate hosts to connect with like-minded fans,” said Dan Donnelly, Founder of Tailgate Connect. “Much like Airbnb and Uber, TgC is taking the same personal space sharing concept to the pre- and postgame celebrations outside of football stadiums. Fans and tailgaters will sign up on our website www.tailgateconnext.com and much like a dating app, we’ll match them with similar tailgaters. For example, card-carrying members of the ‘Fireball and Funnel’ team will be connected with other posse members, while ‘Wine and Cheese’ types will be matched with fellow connoisseurs. We will also have iPhone and android mobile apps in the near future.
Tailgating at college and professional football games alone is a $13 billion business with over 50 million people a year partaking, based on an analysis of figures from the Tailgating Institute, Yahoo Sports, Weber and Tailgateshow.com. The average season ticket holder/tailgater will spend over $500 per season just on food, according a study by the Tailgating Institute. TgC recognizes the need to give the “tailgate nomads” an opportunity to get the full experience of game day by partaking in a tailgate, meeting new people and learning the history, pageantry and traditions of the host schools.
“I have personally been to several hundred games and over 100 different schools,” explained Donnelly. “I have been that nomad wandering parking lots hoping to get invited to a tailgate. I have also taken in many tailgate nomads and have witnessed first-hand the mutual benefits for these connections.”
TgC will have its first venues the weekend on August 26th and the founders will personally host a tailgate at the San Jose State game against the University of South Florida.
